Xplorians Community

Terms of Use

Last updated: 11 August 2026

These terms are the agreement between Xplorians and the people who use the community. Creating an account — by email, with Google or with Apple — means accepting this page and the Community Guidelines. If you disagree with anything below, do not create an account.

1. Who we are and what this covers

Xplorians is a community of travelers: a feed, direct messages, groups, events, trips, contests and member-to-member hosting. These terms cover the website, the installable app (PWA) and the mobile app. The Community Guidelines are part of this agreement and set out, with examples, what may and may not be posted.

2. Who may use Xplorians

You must be at least 13. The email-and-password signup asks for your date of birth, on the web and in the app, and one that works out to less than 13 years does not create an account. Signing in with Google or with Apple does not ask at that moment: the account is created first, and a date of birth is required before you can use the community — the same rule, a moment later. An invitation asks for it too, on the same form that sets the password. So every door asks — but take the rule as the rule rather than as something a form guarantees: being under 13 is grounds for us to close an account, whichever door it came through. You need a real email address and have to confirm it before you can get in, one account per person, and you are responsible for what happens on yours: whoever has your password writes under your name. If we suspend your account, you may not come back with another one.

3. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive members

This is the most important rule on the page, and it is not a formality. We do not tolerate objectionable content, and we do not tolerate members who treat other members abusively. Here that means, among other things:

  • harassment, threats and insults, including following somebody from post to post or messaging them privately after they blocked you;
  • hatred or contempt for people because of their origin, nationality, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age;
  • nudity and sexual content; anything that sexualises a minor is removed, ends the account, and is reported to the authorities;
  • graphic violence, glorification of terrorism, and anything encouraging self-harm or harm to others;
  • scams, spam, fake accounts, impersonating a person or a brand, and posting somebody else's private details — address, phone number, documents, messages — without their permission.

Posting any of that, or treating another member that way, is enough on its own for the content to be removed and the account suspended, with no warning first. The Community Guidelines carry the full list with examples.

4. What happens when somebody breaks the rules

This is what Xplorians actually does today, not a general promise:

  • Reporting: every post, comment, profile, event, ad, listing and conversation can be reported from its own menu, on the web and in the app. The report joins a queue a person on our team reads. You hear back when we dismiss it — with the moderator's reason, when they left one — and when it ends in the reported account being suspended. A report closed any other way, for example because the content was taken down, can close without a message to you; it was still read, and still decided.
  • Blocking and hiding: you can block any member except our own moderators and the owners of an organization you belong to. Blocking is immediate, does not go through us, and works both ways: the two accounts stop seeing each other and can no longer exchange messages. You can also hide a post or mute an author without blocking them.
  • Review before publishing: a new account's first posts do not appear in the community until a moderator has read them. Once somebody has a few approved, their posts go straight out. A moderator can also take a published post down; the author is told, and usually told why.
  • Suspension: a suspended account cannot sign in, stops being visible in the community, and its booked stays are cancelled. Suspension can be immediate and without warning.

What we do not do matters just as much: we do not review everything before it is published, and there is no automated filter reading content. There is also no screen anywhere here for opening somebody's inbox. Reporting a conversation is the one exception, and it is what the report is for: the moderator handling it sees the twenty most recent messages of that conversation, from both people, because a report about threats or harassment cannot be judged without them. Nothing outside the conversation that was reported is read.

5. What you post stays yours

Your content is yours. Posting it gives us permission to host, show and distribute it inside Xplorians — in the feed, on your profile, on public post pages, in contest galleries and in the preview that appears when somebody shares a link — to adapt it technically (sizes, crops, thumbnails) and to machine-translate it into the reader's language. The permission is non-exclusive and free of charge, and it exists so the features can do what they do. We do not sell your content and we do not license it to third parties for their advertising. When you delete something it stops being shown. Other members can share or repost what you post publicly.

6. Advertising

Xplorians is paid for by advertising we sell ourselves, and ads are labelled as sponsored. An ad can appear in the feed, on public pages, and also as a message in your inbox; that message is one-way — it cannot be replied to — and can be reported like anything else. Some links to third-party services, such as insurance or eSIMs, earn us a commission at no extra cost to you, and they are labelled. We may also show ads from an outside ad network; when we do, they stay labelled as advertising.

7. The safety features are not an emergency service

Xplorians has trusted contacts, “I’m safe” check-ins and an SOS button. They tell the people you chose and nothing more: nobody on our team is watching, and nobody on our team will act. If you are in danger, call the local emergency number where you are. We also do not vouch for members who offer hosting or run events: the verified badge says we checked an identity, not that the person can be trusted.

8. Ending the account

You can leave whenever you like from Settings → Account, on the web or in the app, and there is a public page explaining how and what gets deleted. Deletion is permanent. We can suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms or the Community Guidelines, or that puts other members at risk. If you think we got it wrong, write to us: a suspended account cannot sign in, so email is the only way back.

9. Changes to these terms

If we change something significant, we will announce it in the community before it takes effect and update the date above. We record which version of these terms each account agreed to, and when we publish a new version we ask you to accept that one too — nothing is blocked while you decide, and continuing to use Xplorians after a change means accepting it.

10. Contact

For anything about these terms, about a report, or about a suspension, write to us at [email protected]. It is the same address as on the privacy policy. We answer as soon as we can, and within 30 days at most when it concerns your data or your account.
